With the xxter KNX recorder the xxter controller can monitor and store KNX bus traffic for later analysis.

The KNX recorder is available on every xxter device (fw. 3.2.0 and up).

The recorder is not meant for permanent monitoring but for troubleshooting purposes only.

The KNX recorder can be used online or offline:

1) Offline monitoring. All data will remain on the device, a maximum of 1000 telegrams will be recorded. You can set a filter to limit/specify the telegrams that will be recorded.

The telegrams can be downloaded from the device, to your computer in XML format. This file can be loaded into ETS for analyses. This eliminates the need to be present at a site with a laptop during the recording.

2) Offline + online* monitoring.

The recorder can be used the same way as described above, and up to 100.000 telegrams will be stored (first in first out) on the xxter server. This will be done every 10 minutes, when the local buffer is full (recording telegrams with a high bus load for example), or when the “Synchronise” button is pressed.

The telegrams can be analysed online* in the my.xxter.com environment, under Device -> KNX recorder. The telegrams can be filtered and sorted directly on my.xxter.com, or they can be exported as an XML file that can be imported into ETS.

In both cases, recording “continuous”, or with a fixed time of 24h can be used.

*The online functionality will be available when the Professional has a PRO licence active on their account. Purchase information can be found at the end of this post.

In the example below, only group addresses with main group 1, or with main group 3 and middle group 3 will be recorded.

The online recording status of the KNX recorder can be viewed in the device dashboard (click "Devices" on my.xxter) . This is useful to keep track of which recorders are active. Its recommended to turn off recorders when troubleshooting is finished.

The online recording status of the KNX recorder can be seen on the right side. A grey icon means the recorder has not received any telegrams in the last hour. A blue icon means it has received telegrams in the last hour. No icon means the recorder is not activated.
